BUTTERWORTH: The trial of two sisters charged with attempting to murder the older woman's daughter-in-law has been postponed to July 18 pending a psychiatric report on one of the accused, Lee Wai Mei.
Sessions Court judge Ikmal Hishan Mohd Tajuddin allowed the application by deputy public prosecutor Siti Aisyah Ramlan to fix another date as the prosecution was waiting for Wai Mei's psychiatric report from Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan.
Last month, the court had allowed Wai Mei, 63, to be placed under a month-long observation at the hospital following an application from her lawyer after she was slapped with two charges.
Counsel Moke Yee Yow, who represented Wai Mei, had applied to the court to send her client for a psychiatric observation after the husband claimed she was suffering from mental problems.
Wai Mei, and her younger sister, Wai Chee, 60, are jointly charged with attempting to murder Yeoh Kar Tin, 42, by stabbing her at her house in Block S, Taman Tun Hussein, Seberang Jaya, at 4pm on May 8.
The sisters also face another charge of causing mischief by using petrol to set fire to the victim's house before fleeing the scene.
In the incident, Yeoh, a teacher of SJK(C) Lay Keow in Permatang Pauh, was rescued by firefighters who spotted her unconscious in her bedroom.
It was reported that Yeoh suffered 50 per cent burns.
Wai Mei and Wai Chee claimed trial to both charges.
Wai Chee, who was released on RM30,000 bail, was represented by lawyer Y. Anba-nathan.
